Remit

In twelfth, a remit is the commercial section a person owns: the categories, and sometimes an explicit set of SKUs, they are accountable for.

What it means for retail and category teams

Retail teams divide ownership in many ways — by category, supplier, brand or channel. Whatever the split, clear ownership means every product has someone who decides about it. In twelfth that ownership is the remit. Work is raised against the remit that covers it, so the question of whose decision something is has an answer before anyone has to ask.

Why it matters

Unclear ownership is one of the most common reasons commercial issues sit unresolved: a line falls between two categories, a supplier spans several, or a new product was never assigned. Explicit remits close those gaps and make workload visible, so a head of category can see where coverage is thin or shared.

Illustrative example

The business and figures are illustrative, not customer data

One buyer covers bakery and another covers chilled desserts. Cheesecakes sit in both product hierarchies, so alerts about them reached both buyers or neither. Putting the cheesecake SKUs into one buyer's remit as an explicit set means each alert now reaches one owner.

In twelfth

twelfth shows who owns each commercial section. Custom remits come from the buyer mapping and contain an explicit set of SKUs; product sections follow the categories in the product data and cover SKUs not claimed by a custom remit. A My remit view narrows what a person sees to the remits assigned to them.
