Microsoft 365 calendars and Excel plans
Microsoft 365 calendars and Excel plans
Microsoft 365 can supply planning calendars and target plans. Set up the source
where you will use it; the Microsoft connection supplies access.
Read an Outlook calendar
- Connect Microsoft 365 with Outlook calendars permission.
- Open Settings → Calendars, add or choose a calendar, then select
Outlook Calendar as its source. - Choose the source calendar and timezone, review the events in the selected
date range, and confirm the link.
Use a trading calendar for public holidays or team events. A promotion calendar
needs product or range information, so an ordinary team calendar may not pass
its checks. See Calendars for the required fields.
Twelfth reads Outlook events; it does not create, change or delete them.
Read an Excel worksheet as a calendar
- Give the connected account access to the workbook in OneDrive or SharePoint
and grant Twelfth file-reading access. - In Settings → Calendars, choose Excel workbook.
- Pick the workbook or paste its link, choose the worksheet and review the
preview. Correct the Reads as mapping for any column that means
something different from Twelfth’s suggestion. - Resolve rejected rows, then confirm the source.
The worksheet becomes the source of truth. Linking populated source data does
not merge it with old local calendar entries. Move those entries into the
worksheet first if you need them, or create a new template worksheet.
Start with a new worksheet
Choose Start with a new tab. An owner or admin can grant the separate write
permission with Let Twelfth add the worksheet, then create the worksheet
with template headers and any existing local calendar entries.
Twelfth writes this initial template on request. After linking, your team edits
Excel and Twelfth reads it; calendar sync does not keep writing back. Without
the write grant, add the worksheet yourself in Excel and choose it in Twelfth.
See Permissions and settings.
Keep an Excel target plan in sync
Open Performance → Targets → Add target plan. Choose Connect sheet,
select an Excel workbook and target worksheet, and review its columns.
Linked target sources are read hourly, or with Sync now. Changed figures
stage a revision under Review changes; an administrator activates it before
it replaces the current targets. A source error keeps the last active targets.
Create linked template adds a new worksheet to a customer-owned workbook
and needs the separate files-write grant. Existing worksheets are preserved.
You can instead download the Excel or CSV template, add your figures yourself,
and connect the resulting worksheet. See Sales and performance targets
for scope, mapping, review and activation.
Check freshness in the right place
Calendar sources are read when needed and refresh while their calendar view is
open. Target plans use hourly source reads and explicit revision activation.
Context files use text snapshots refreshed when read. Linking the same workbook
for one purpose does not configure the others.
